About the event
We live in a world that is constantly challenging us in all ways - causing stress, anxiety, insomnia and physical pain; Qigong can actually slow down the mind and our busy brains, open and clear the pathways to a stronger, more mobile and healthier body. Its origins are from the ancient Chinese masters, its roots derived from Daoist and Buddhist traditions, which have been passed down through centuries and still practised daily by all ages.
Using poetic visualisations, soothing music and drawing on nature and animals, the slow, gentle movements bring serenity to the mind as well as toning the body and essentially bringing renewed energy with each practise. As Qigong is connected to the acupuncture meridians, many of the moves are designed to stimulate and strengthen different organs within, promoting a clear open path for the blood and energy to flow freely. The Chinese believe that blocked paths lead to disease.
-We will start with some warming up exercises, that help stimulate the lymphatic system, encouraging good circulation and loosening the joints.
-There will be different patterns of breath work that will serve as useful tools to help calm anxiety and the nervous system.
-There will be little sequences of movements that mimic the natural actions of animals, such as the crane, tiger and bear; animals have natural instinctive movements that gives them an agility and strength.
-Following nature with its seasonal cycle enables us to live in harmony with the world and it’s everchanging challenges.
We will learn about the 5 elements that are linked to the seasons and how they are connected to the body.
-We will end with a soothing cup of tea served by a dragon.
The class is suitable for all ages and abilities, but it is suggested that you start gently and use about 70% effort and avoid any unnecessary pain. Qigong can be as rigorous or as gentle as you require; it’s tailored to suit your needs.
My belief is that little by little, like tending a garden, your strength and flexibility will grow to nourish and enlighten your spirit. Think of Qigong as a moving meditation,
